Gouda Pottery originated in the town of Gouda, in the Netherlands, at the beginning of the 20th century. The first major art pottery to open in Gouda was Plateelfabriek Zuid-Holland (PZH) and its success led to many more Dutch potteries opening in Gouda. The popularity of Gouda pottery wained toward the middle of the 20th century, and by the mid-1960s, most potteries in Gouda had closed or moved away. Today Gouda remains popular and collectable both in Holland and abroad.
