ITEM T156 - Rare Troika St Ives Pottery Rectangular Vase Decorated by Honor Curtis - Unusual Pattern

SOLD Sep 2009

An unusual patterned Troika St. Ives pottery large rectangular vase. This vase is from the earlier Troika period when they were based in St Ives in Cornwall, from 1960-1970. After this time they moved to Newlyn until they closed in 1983. It is an extremely attractive and well-patterned vase with a temple design on one side, a face design on another side all picked out in the textured and glazed decoration. This particular Troika vase is called a rectangular vase and stands approimately 9" tall and is 2¾" square.

On its base this vase has the black painted Troika St Ives England pottery mark and the decorator mark HC for Honor Curtis. Honor Curtis worked at the pottery from 1968 until 1973. She used this pottery mark from 1969 onwards, dating this vase 1969-1970 (as after this they were based in Newlyn, not St. Ives).

Condition: Excellent condition. A superb example of an early Troika vase with an extremely desirable design.
