Derbyshire is full of many wonderful sites and collectables! If you live in Derbyshire and are looking for something a little different either for a gift or for yourself then why not consider a piece of Denby Pottery?
Back in the early 1800’s local potter William Bourne took a lease on a piece of land near to where the discovery had been made of a seam of fine quality clay along the route of the nascent Derby – Alfreton Road. He already had a pottery near Belper, but soon set up on his new site where the reputation for producing good quality wares was soon established, and the rest was history!
Here are a few examples of some Denby Pottery items from the 1950’s and 1970’s:
Another great site in Derbyshire is of course Chatsworth. This is a stunning historic house set in the centre of the Peak District. It is steeped in history with beautiful gardens. In the run up to Christmas the lower part of the house is decked out with festive displays and in November there are Christmas Markets with more than 100 stalls complementing Chatsworth’s own range of food and gift shops.

This Denby bowl is from the Denby Pottery Glyn Ware range and features an abstract plant and leaf design that has been picked out in striking colours of aqua and turquoise – quite unusual. An additional feature is that the outside of the bowl has also been decorated, something that is often missed resulting in plain sides when viewing the bowl side on. The sides of this bowl have been decorated in green with an interwoven purple pattern running around the edge of the bowl.
This attractive Denby bowl also has the hand-painted Glyn Colledge pottery mark on its base.
