A recent addition to the Perfect Pieces PenDelfin rabbit section is this adorable PenDelfin Bath Tub – a small display piece that sits happily among all the PenDelfin rabbits!

This is an early piece of PenDelfin and was designed by Doreen Noel Roberts. It was only produced by the PenDelfin pottery from 1967 until 1975 and has the style, fine paint work and delicate detailing to the design that all the early pieces do. It features a small tub full of water with a sponge and a ladybird floating in it!
We have a wide selection of PenDelfin rabbits for sale, including PenDelfin Family Circle collector’s club pieces, PenDelfin display stands and many retired and old PenDelfin rabbits.

Up for auction in Nantwich in Cheshire this Thursday, 19th February 2009, is an extremely rare PenDelfin Pixie House Plaque designed by Jean Walmsley Heap.
The PenDelfin Pixie House plaque was designed by PenDelfin founder Jean Walmsley Heap and is one of the very very early pieces of PenDelfin. It was only produced from 1953 until 1958. Featuring a little pixie outside a house surrounded by leaves it is typical in style to pieces of that era designed by Jean Walmsley Heap.
A superb piece to acquire and with an estimate of £500 – £1000 it really is one for the more serious collectors! Nevertheless, if you are a PenDelfin collector and in the area it’s a must to go and see as it’s not every day pieces like this come up for sale.
The sale is held by Peter Wilson Fine Art Auctioneers based in Nantwich in Cheshire. This PenDelfin piece is lot number 428 and features in their two-day Fine Art Sale on Wednesday 18th and Thursday 19th February 2009.

Do remember when you are bidding on anything at auction that on top of the final hammer price there is a Commission Fee to pay and VAT on that commission as well. The commission (often known as Buyers premium) can range from anything like 10% to 20% dependent on the Auction House, so it’s always wise to confirm with the auction house their exact rates so you know exactly how much will be added on top of the hammer price.
Also remember to thoroughly check any pieces you are interested in yourselves for any damage or restoration. You can’t always rely on the Auction House’s description in the catalogue – items are typically ‘sold as seen’.
If you’re looking for an unusual gift for Christmas then we’ve just added an early Miniature B PenDelfin Mary Mary plaque to our PenDelfin section.

This miniature PenDelfin Mary Mary plaque was designed by well-known PenDelfin founder Jean Walmsley Heap and was only made during the late 1950s – so it’s quite an unusual piece. This particular example of Mary Mary has its original hanging hook on her back as well as the old and collectable rectangular gold PenDelfin label.

To keep the PenDelfin Pooch dog on his toes we have just added a PenDelfin Tammy Puppy dog to our PenDelfin section.

Early PenDelfin Dog Pooch

Retired PenDelfin Tammy Puppy Dog
The PenDelfin Tammy dog was designed by the well-known Jean Walmsley Heap back in the late 1950s. He is a white puppy dog sitting looking up and wears a coloured collar – his collar can be found in many colours this one is a pinkish-red colour. He finally retired from production in c1987 the same year as the PenDelfin Pooch dog.
The two PenDelfin dogs, Pooch and Tammy are nice to have within a PenDelfin collection as they add some variety between all the rabbit models!

Jean Walmsley Heap, the founder of much-loved Burnley pottery PenDelfin, has died aged 87.
Jean started out as an artist, illustrating children’s books. The PenDelfin figurine business grew out of a idea sparked through her friendship with Jeannie Todd, whom she met at a Burnley Artists Society meeting in 1953.
From its early beginnings in a garden shed, the pottery grew to be an internationally-known business – all the time maintaining its base in Burnley. Early pieces – such as the Pendle Witch and the Fairy Shop plaque – are today extremely rare and collectable, as are rare, early rabbits like Aunt Agatha.
Here are a few examples of Jean’s finest work – a wonderful creative talent who will be missed by the PenDelfin community:

We have just added a rather nice early PenDelfin Dungaree Father to our PenDelfin section! Dungaree Father was designed by Jean Walmsley Heap and is one of the very first PenDelfin rabbits to have been made. Originally introduced in 1955 the PenDelfin Dungaree Father was only produced for 5 year and was retired in 1960.

1st Edition PenDelfin Father Rabbit - Dungaree
His delicate neck and large ears made him difficult to produce with broken necks quite common! Due to this his body was revised and he retired from production with the Kipper Tie Father replacing him – he has a much more solid neck and is far more stable!
The Dungaree Father is a fabulous rabbit really displaying the features that made PenDelfin so collectable. To view further details about him please click here, or if you have any questions please feel free to contact us.
In 1953 Jean Walmsley Heap created PenDelfin – a company whose products would bring joy to thousands of people over the 5 decades. Many years later, Jean wrote ‘The PenDelfin Story’ – her first-hand account of PenDelfin’s remarkable history.

In this hardback 1st edition book Jean Walmsley Heap personally recollects the history of PenDelfin and how what started as a garden shed-based hobby in 1953 became a major British success story employing dozens of people. Illustrated throughout it is truly a wonderful book for any PenDelfin collector.
”The PenDelfin Story” was first published by PenDelfin in 1993 and consists of 132 pages of history, illustrations and photographs. Click on the image below for more details:
