NEW STOCK – Rare PenDelfin Picnic Basket For Sale

A new addition to the Perfect Pieces PenDelfin rabbit section is this adorable piece of PenDelfin – the PenDelfin Picnic Basket:

PenDelfin Picnic Basket - Jean Walmsley Heap

Retired PenDelfin Picnic Basket

Designed by Jean Walmsley Heap this is an early piece of PenDelfin pottery only produced by the factory in the 1960′s – from c1966 until 1968. This PenDelfin piece isn’t your typical PenDelfin rabbit as you can’t see his head as it’s inside the wicker basket! He looks a bit like Winnie The Pooh when he got stuck in the tree trunk!

We have a wide range of retired PenDelfin rabbits for sale including many early PenDelfin pieces and some PenDelfin display stands. If you’re looking for a specific rabbit then do let us know as our PenDelfin stock is regularly changing.

NEW STOCK – Early PenDelfin Uncle Soames For Sale

A recent new addition to the Perfect Pieces PenDelfin rabbit section is this lovely early PenDelfin Uncle Soames:

PenDelfin Uncle Soames Rabbit - PenDelfin Butterfly Label

PenDelfin Uncle Soames Rabbit

The Uncle Soames rabbit was designed by Jean Walmsley Heap and is now retired from production. We know this is an earlier version of the model as he has large and impressive ears and has the early desirable PenDelfin butterfly label on his base which was used by the pottery in the late 1950′s.

The Uncle Soames rabbit was first introduced into the PenDelfiun rabbit family in c1959, making him one of the earlier PenDelfin rabbits – a perfect companion for Aunt Agatha!

We have a wide selection of retired PenDelfin rabbits for sale including another of Uncle Soames companions – the PenDelfin Dungaree father!

End Of An Era – PenDelfin Family Circle Collectors Club To Close

The PenDelfin Family Circle collectors club is to close in March 2013, according to an announcement on the PenDelfin website.

The decision means that the Family Circle’s twentieth birthday will be its last. To mark the occasion, PenDelfin’s owner Xystos is promising that this year’s Model of the Year and Membership Gift will be something special, as will a number of new models that will be introduced this year.

The question now remains what is happening to PenDelfin as a whole? Since PenDelfin was taken over collectors have seen production of the popular bunny rabbits moved from its home in Burnley and now we have the closure of the collectors Family Circle club. Only time will tell what will happen next to this once very loveable collectable.

You can read the full PenDelfin Family Circle closure announcement here.

Are you a PenDelfin collector? Do you buy recent new models or only retired ‘old’ PenDelfin? Leave a comment below and let us know what you think.

Wedgwood Museum To Be Broken Up & Sold

The Wedgwood Museum is to be broken up and sold off in order to help plug the £134m deficit in the pension fund of Waterford Wedgwood Potteries, which failed in 2009.

The Wedgwood Museum, which was shortlisted by UNESCO as one of the UK’s ‘Memories of the World’, is to be broken up and sold. The decision stems from legal action brought by Waterford Wedgwood Potteries creditors, after it failed in 2009.

Although the company’s assets were sold, the deal excluded its debts and its pension fund, which had a major funding shortfall.

The Wedgwood Museum was also excluded from the sale of the Potteries and as an independent charitable trust, was expected to be protected from any claims by Wedgwood’s former creditors. However, this week a high court judgement has found in favour of the creditors and decided that the Museum was an asset of Waterford Wedgwood Potteries and can therefore be sold to help repay its creditors.

This ruling has only come about due to a legal loophole: although the Museum is operated as an charitable trust, a handful of its staff were members of the Waterford Wedgwood Potteries pension scheme. This has enabled the court to classify the museum as an asset of the company, despite the fact that the museum itself has been operated independently for nearly 50 years.

The main creditor in this case is the Pension Protection Fund, a public organisation which pays compensation to members of defined benefit pension schemes whose employers go bust.

While we sympathise with anyone who has lost their pension as a result of Wedgwood’s bankruptcy, the sale of the museum and its contents will hardly make a dent in the £134m pension deficit, but it will mean that the UK loses a significant reminder of our cultural and industrial heritage.

The Wedgwood Museum contains a massive, irreplacable collection of Wedgwood pottery, documents and British art, the like of which does not exist anywhere else in the world.

The Wedgwood Museum is now beginning a campaign to raise sufficient funds to buy out the museum’s collections and save them for future generations. If you’d like to learn more or get involved, contact the Wedgwood Museum Trust.
