Troika Pottery For Christmas!

If you’re trying to think of something for Christmas then why not take a look at some Troika pottery vases?

Example of a Troika Pottery Marmalade Vase

Example of a Troika Pottery vase – a Troika Marmalade Vase

This popular Cornish pottery first started producing pottery in c1963 and unfortunately only lasted for 20 years closing down in 1983. During this time it moved from its original location in St Ives to Newlyn in Cornwall in c1970.

A range of people worked at the pottery over the years so you’ll often find different decorator marks on the base – a particular decorator is often a popular theme of collecting Troika!

The pottery produced a whole range of different shapes from smaller pieces such as Marmalade and Cube vases, medium pieces like the Spice vase or Rectangular vase to large pieces like the Double base vase, a range of plaques and a whole range of different style lamp bases. There really is a shape for everyone!

The Queen Anne Style Furniture

Here’s a little about the Queen Anne style furniture…

Queen Anne reigned from 1702-1714 and gave her name to a style of furniture that reached maturity during this time. Queen Anne furniture is most easily recognised by one or more of its characteristic features:

  • Cabriole legs – legs that curve outwards at the top and inwards at the bottom
  • Claw and ball feet
  • Made from walnut – during this period, walnut replaced oak as the dominant wood used in English furniture
  • Decorative motifs such as shells and scrolls were very popular
  • Specialised items of furniture such as card tables and writing tables became popular for the first time
  • The technique of japanning (lacquering) furniture was popular, thanks to the growing popularity of imports from the Orient

Queen Anne style furniture should not be confused with Queen Anne architecture or with the Queen Anne revival style that became popular in the late 19th century.

Troika Pottery Ideas For Christmas Presents…

If you’re thinking of purchasing a piece of Troika pottery for someone’s Christmas present or even just for yourself for Christmas then be sure to check out the Perfect Pieces Troika Pottery section.

We have a wide range of Troika pottery pieces for sale, ranging from the smaller pieces such as Troika marmalade vases and Cube vases, through to Troika slab vases and larger Troika lamp bases. I have pictured a small range from our selection below:

Troika Marmalade vase, Troika Spice vase, Troika Chimney vase and a Troika Wheel lamp base

Troika Pottery is one of our specialist areas and we often have a wide range of pieces to choose from. The pottery which only operated for around 20 years has become hugely collectable and as a result you should be aware that there are pieces out there that are not true Troika pottery pieces. People often ask what do you mean “not true Troika Pottery”, what we mean is pieces that are not originally and 100% made by the pottery when it was open from c1963 until c1983. These can be pieces that have had “Troika” written on the bottom of them or even white wares from the pottery that have been painted by somebody else. Our advice is that you should always buy from a reputable place and from someone you can trust!

Wedgwood Keith Murray tankard – always a popular choice for men! This Keith Murray tankard is in the straw colour and has script pottery mark on the base. A superb and very affordable gift that could even be used by the recipient!

Ruskin stoneware vase – This is an impressive & heavy vase shaped a bit like an elephants foot. Coloured in a grey and blue style it’s certainly manly in appearance!

Denby pottery tankard – This is a sturdy tankard decorated in the typical style familiar on this age of Denby pottery. With a black rim and border around the base the subtle abstract leaf decoration in the middle is very appealing.
