Steaming Into Autumn
It’s the 1st of September as I write this, so you’ll probably not like hearing this but summer is almost over! Still there are plenty of antiques fairs on over the next month to keep everyone busy, including the popular Antiques In The Park at Kedleston Hall - see the fair news below for more details.
Something that's always popular with tourists in the summer months are historic railways with working steam trains.
It seems that we humans have always been fascinated by mechanised transport. For as long as trains, buses and cars have existed, people have been making models of them. As a result, there's a thriving collectables market in this area and early model trains and older diecast Dinky and Corgi models are highly collectable.
These quality models are usually made to scale with some of the most popular being 1:72 and 1:76 scale models - this means that the little vehicles have been sized in proportion to the real item, so a 1:76 scale model bus means its 1/76th the size of a real bus!
When you examine these scale models they have terrific detailing and can sometimes have opening doors, bonnets and carriages that really add to the level of authenticity of the vehicle.
We have recently added a new section to the Perfect Pieces website - Toys & Models: Diecast Model Buses and Trains. This section includes a selection of diecast Corgi scale models including many 1:76 scale buses and trams. These model vehicles are ideal for model collectors and also for railway enthusiasts - the 1:76 scale model is equivalent to the OO gauge that's popular with railway modellers!
Here are a few Corgi Original Omnibus Company 1:76 Scale Models: OM41109 Daimler CVG6/East Lancs-Bradford City Transport Double Deckr Bus, OM43513 Blackpool Double Decker Balloon Tram, and the OM41407 Derby Corporation Roe Trolleybus.
